What to expect at a sound bath at Mattress Central

Some evenings, after the last shopper leaves, our showroom on Glendale Boulevard becomes something else. The lights go down, the instruments come out, and guests spend an hour lying on the mattresses and listening.

If you have never been to a sound bath, or never been to one in a mattress store, here is what to expect. And if you are shopping for a mattress, it is also the longest test rest you will find.

What a sound bath is

A sound bath is an hour of lying still while someone plays resonant instruments around you. There is nothing to do and nothing to learn. Many people find their breathing slows within a few minutes and the hour passes faster than they expect. Some people fall asleep, and that is fine.

Most sound baths happen on a mat on the floor. Here, every guest gets a bed.

How the evening works

You arrive after the showroom has closed to shoppers, check in, pick a bed and settle in. Then the sound bath begins and runs for about an hour. Phones go on silent, the lights stay low, and the only job is to lie there. When it ends, take a few minutes before you sit up.

Start and end times for each date are listed on our events page.

What to bring

  • Comfortable clothes. You will be lying down for an hour, so skip the belt.
  • A sweater or light blanket if you tend to get cold.
  • An open mind. There is no right way to do this.

Leave food, drinks and anything that beeps at home, and plan to take your shoes off before you get on the bed.

Dates and tickets

Upcoming dates and tickets are on our events page. Check there for ticket terms and any age requirements before you book.

Why a mattress store

A sound bath asks you to lie still for an hour, and a showroom full of mattresses is a comfortable place to do it. It also makes a useful test. The bed you rest on is one we sell, so if you want to know which model you were on, ask on your way out.

Planning your visit

We are at 3319 Glendale Blvd in Atwater Village, Los Angeles 90039. The showroom is open daily 9 AM to 8 PM, so if you want to try mattresses before an evening session, come in earlier in the day. Questions? Call (323) 522-3410 or contact us.
