Best time to buy a mattress in Los Angeles

Mattresses go on sale a handful of times a year, and the dates are the same every year. If you can wait for one of them, you will usually pay less or get more thrown in. If you can't wait, there is a year-round answer too. Here is how the calendar works in Los Angeles, and how we handle each one at our Atwater Village showroom.

When is the best time to buy a mattress?

The two biggest mattress sale windows are Black Friday week (late November) and Presidents Day weekend (mid-February). Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day come next. The weeks between Christmas and mid-January are quieter but still good, because brands clear the year's inventory before new models arrive in spring.

If your mattress is already keeping you up at night, the best time to buy is now. Every week on a worn-out mattress costs you sleep, and the difference between a sale price and a regular price is small next to that.

The mattress sale calendar

Veterans Day, around November 11. The first holiday window of the season. Brands open their holiday offers early, so the November prices often start here and run through Black Friday.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the last week of November. The biggest week of the year for mattresses. Most national brands publish one sanctioned offer for the week, and every authorized dealer carries the same one, so the price you see in our showroom is the price you see online. Where we differ is everything around the price: free delivery anywhere in the US, setup and old-mattress removal around Los Angeles, the 120-night comfort exchange, and the chance to lie on the bed before you buy it. Our Black Friday page lists each brand's offer as it is announced.

New Year, late December to early January. A quieter window with real markdowns on floor models and discontinued covers. Good for people who shopped in November and decided to wait.

Presidents Day, mid-February. The second-biggest mattress sale of the year, and the one most people forget. New model years arrive in spring, so February is when the outgoing models get their deepest cuts.

Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. Three summer weekends with brand offers and floor-model clearance. Labor Day is the strongest of the three, because the fall lineup is already on the floor and last season's beds need to go.

What the offers usually look like

A mattress sale is rarely a simple percentage off. Most offers are one of these:

  • A set price on a model for the week, the same at every authorized dealer.
  • A free adjustable base, pillows or a sheet set with a qualifying mattress.
  • A gift card or store credit after delivery.
  • Floor-model and clearance pricing, which is set by the store and is often the best value in the building.

The big brands set their own sale prices and dates, and authorized dealers follow them. What we add is free delivery and removal, and one exchange within 120 nights if the feel is not right.

Floor models and clearance, all year

Our showroom turns over its floor through the year, and the beds that come off it are sold as floor models at a markdown. Discontinued covers and overstock land in the same place. The selection changes and it is first come, first served, so if you are flexible on brand and size, ask what is on the clearance floor before you look at anything else.

Signs you should not wait

  • You wake up stiff and it eases once you are up and moving.
  • There is a visible dip or body impression where you sleep.
  • You sleep better in hotels or on a guest bed.
  • The mattress is more than eight to ten years old.
  • You and your partner feel every movement the other one makes.

Any of these means the mattress is done, and no sale date is worth another two months of bad sleep.

Buying before a holiday: timing the delivery

Delivery slots fill up in the two weeks before Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you want a new bed in place for guests, order by mid-November for Thanksgiving and by the first week of December for Christmas. Delivery is free anywhere in the US. Around Los Angeles our own team sets the bed up and takes the old one away (California orders). See our delivery policy for details.

Financing

If the timing is right but the budget is not, we offer financing with approved credit, in the showroom and online.

Questions people ask

Is Black Friday really the cheapest time to buy a mattress? For the national brands, Black Friday week and Presidents Day weekend carry the deepest sanctioned offers. Floor models and clearance can beat both at any time of year.

Do mattress sales happen in Los Angeles at different times than elsewhere? No. The brand offers are national. What varies locally is delivery, removal and what a store has on its clearance floor.

Are the online prices lower than the showroom price? Not for the brands we carry. Authorized dealers carry the same sanctioned price online and in store.

When do new mattress models come out? Most brands release new lines in spring. The outgoing models are marked down from Presidents Day through early summer.

Should I buy the floor model? Floor models are a good buy if you can see and feel the bed. Ask at the showroom what is on the floor and which warranty comes with it.

How long do I have to decide if I like the mattress? You have 120 nights to exchange it once if the feel is not right. Give a new mattress at least three to four weeks before you decide.

Does the sale price include delivery? With us, delivery is free all year, sale or no sale, and around Los Angeles we take the old mattress away.

What about the $18 recycling fee? California charges a recycling fee of $18 on each mattress and foundation delivered or picked up in the state. It is listed as a separate line and never discounted, and it funds the state's mattress recycling program. How the fee works.

Try it before the sale ends

The showroom is busiest on the last weekend of a sale. Come earlier in the week and lie on the beds you are considering. We are at 3319 Glendale Blvd in Atwater Village, open daily 9 AM to 8 PM. Call (323) 522-3410 or visit us.

One more option no sale page can offer: our sound bath nights let you rest on a mattress for an hour after closing. If you are torn between two beds, that hour settles it.
